Stories
are where we see
the journey unfold

Storytelling connects us to the young people at the heart of GSGC, helping us understand not only what they are working toward, but how they are growing along the way. Each story is a window into a life shaped by mentorship, opportunity, and perseverance, and a way of honoring the paths these young people are creating for themselves and their communities.

GSGC Mentor Nyika

THE MYTH OF MANHOOD

Written by GSGC Mentor Nyika Muyambo and illustrated by Kangwa Yombwe, this book offers an honest examination of masculinity through the eyes of an African man raised within deeply rooted cultural expectations. It is a courageous story of questioning inherited beliefs, unlearning harmful norms, and choosing a different path.

Myth of Manhood is being used in clubs to spark honest conversations about identity, relationships, and the expectations placed on young people. These conversations continue to strengthen the culture of understanding, dignity, and gender equity that lies at the heart of GSGC’s mission.

VOICES OF TRANSFORMATION

Stories rooted in lived experience, resilience, cultural complexity, hope, and deep community knowledge transform both the storyteller and the reader. They create space for reflection, inviting us to pause, listen, and better understand experiences beyond our own. In doing so, they deepen connection to the people, communities, and possibilities at the heart of this work. These stories are more than narratives. They are tools for dialogue, learning, and cultural confidence.
