Mentor Moment: How Mentorship Helped Patrick Dream Without Limits

When GSGC Mentor Patrick Kazadi, mentor for Kuchengetedza Boys Club in Lower Zambezi, Zambia, first stepped into mentorship, he had no idea how deeply it would shape the way he sees himself, the boys he works with, and his wider community. What he expected to be a role of teaching and guiding turned into something far more transformative.

“Being a mentor has changed a lot about me,” he says. “It has transformed me from being an observer to someone who contributes positively to the change I want to see in young people.”

Before mentoring, Patrick’s dreams were small—contained by the circumstances around him and the belief that certain futures were out of reach. But walking alongside the boys in his club began to shift something inside him. As he encouraged them to think big, he started to believe the same for himself.

“Through the process of being a mentor, I grew from having small dreams to dreaming without limits,” he reflects. “I tell the boys anything is possible, and mentoring them helped me break the mental barriers that cause people to dream small.”

This mindset shift didn’t stop at his personal dreams. It extended into the way he carries himself in his community. As the boys grew to admire him and parents placed their trust in him, Patrick realised that mentorship was not something that happened only during club sessions—it was a way of living.

“Being a mentor has made me consider every step I take,” he says. “I am now a role model. People look up to me. The community has confidence in me. Because of that, I am intentional in how I live my life.”

This sense of responsibility does not weigh him down—it motivates him. He sees the potential in young people with an intensity he never had before, and he strives to bring that potential to life through consistent encouragement, guidance, and example.

Mentorship, for Patrick, has become a pathway to personal growth, expanded vision, and deeper purpose.

“It has brought so many changes in my life that I am proud of,” he says. “It helped me see potential in the boys and encouraged them to dream big, because dreams are limitless. There is no sky that can limit anyone who dares to dream.”

In inspiring others to see more in themselves, Patrick has learned to do the same. And that, he says, is the true power of mentorship.
