International Day of the Girl 2020
Twenty-five years ago, some 30,000 women and men from nearly 200 countries gathered in Beijing, China, for the Fourth World Conference on Women, determined to recognize women’s rights as human rights. The conference culminated in the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the most comprehensive policy agenda for gender equality.
The work didn’t stop there. Women and men, including those at Global Sojourns Giving Circle, have continued to push the agenda forward. GS Giving Circle’s international network of Community Changemakers and Supporters dedicate time, money, energy and resources to empowering girls and strengthening communities in Southern Africa.
Every year on Oct. 11, the International Day of the Girl, the United Nations launches a campaign to help girls amplify their voices and stand up for their rights. This year, with the theme of “My voice, our equal future,” we join the celebration by highlighting some courageous, hopeful and insightful expressions from girls mentored by GS Giving Circle-supported clubs. Never has our “I see you. I hear you. I believe in you,” seemed more fitting.
