What gives more to GSGC and gives back to you? A donation of stock.
Though doing so sounds complex, it’s really quite easy.
According to Heidi Johnson Bixby, a financial planner and GSGC Board Member:
“If a donor has appreciated stocks or mutual funds, shares can be transferred directly to GSGC for a donation. The benefit to the donor is they don’t generate capital gain and resulting taxes by selling the stock and then giving cash. As a 501(c)(3) organization, GSGC is able to receive the shares and then sell them with no tax, resulting in the full value of the shares being given.”
Here’s a graphic that shows how a stock donation benefits both you and GSGC:

Every donation, whether dollars, stock or in-kind contributions, goes toward our work to empower girls and strengthen communities in Southern Africa. That’s why we were awarded the GuideStar Gold Seal of Transparency. Each donation is carefully accounted for and contributes in the most relevant way to the communities with which we work.
