Rachel
Rachel has captured our hearts with her infectious smile.
Rachel lives with her grandmother, two aunts (both are widows), her brother and multiple cousins. She attends Dambwa Basic school and likes English and Religious Education. At home she likes helping her aunt sweep the surroundings of their home and enjoys playing with babies.
When I finish school, I want to visit your country. I want to see where you stay. I want to be a nurse and work in a hospital. I live with my grandmother- Ruth Mulena. She weaves baskets at home and sells them in the community. I have one brother- Balia. He is in Grade 12. English is my favorite subject at school. I don’t like math. It is hard for me. I like to play with my friends. My father died when I was 3 mo.s old. My mother died when I was of talking age. I want to greet my friends in the GS Giving Circle.
Ingutu
Ingutu is 10 and in Grade 4. She lives with her mother, her sister, Margaret, her niece, Annie and her brother, Oscar. Her father passed away soon after she was born. Her mother struggles to buy food for the household. Ingutu speaks Lozi and enjoys learning English at school. Her sister is helping her with her English.
When I grow up I want to be a nurse and I want to help my mother. I want to visit with the members of the GS Giving Circle. I would also like to to back to Victoria Falls with the members of the circle!
Emanuel Situtumba
Emmanuel lives with his uncle, Ernest. His father died when he was six when his boat capsized. His mother died from HIV/AIDS when he was eight. He loves to play soccer, is good in math but says that he struggles with English and Science. He’s rather shy and his English is halting but he has a quiet inner strength and drive that clearly come through when you spend time with him.
On a recent visit, we lent Emanuel a camera and with just a few pointers, he took to taking photos immediately. We hope to get Emanuel set up with a camera soon so he can pursue his new passion which he clearly has talent for! Check out a his photos:
