Career Day Workshops

“What a privilege it was to take part in the Career Day workshop, organized by Ray of Hope.  22 bright, motivated girls from schools throughout Livingstone took part.  I was so impressed and inspired.  How I wish all the GSGC members could have been there to meet the girls, see them shoot their arms up to ask question after question, fill notepads full of notes and to express themselves so eloquently.  So much hope in the air!”  -Priscilla

Few girls get assistance in planning for their future in Livingstone.  Without proper advice or preparation, options tend to be very limited for women.  Many become vegetable vendors and a number turn to prostitution to feed their families.

With Ray of Hope and facilitators from the Ministry of Education, we are offering girls a unique experience to plan for their futures and get some hands on experience in professions of interest to them.  The program includes:

  • Sensitizing teachers about gender issues and supporting girls with career plans
  • Workshop for the girls
  • Identify role models
  • Match the girls with role models to get direct experience in chosen profession

The facilitators, the teachers and the girls have all expressed great enthusiasm and remarked how valuable the program is and how there is such a need for more programs such as this.
