Guiding Principles

Giving Guidelines

1. We support existing sustainable grassroots projects where small amounts of money will make a significant difference.

2. We visit sites and meet local people: we build relationships and rigorously research projects before committing funds.

3. Our projects are found off the grid, far from the beaten track, where few other international partners operate.

4. We fund groups led by dedicated men and women who are well versed in local culture and difficulties people are facing; they know what will work.

5. We monitor the projects we invest in through frequent communication and regular visits.

6. We give input to our local partners, but more importantly listen to what those running the projects suggest.

7. We educate ourselves continuously about the projects, the issues, the culture, good practices and lessons learned in international philanthropy.  As active participants in Grantmakers without Borders [aka GWOB] we share our experiences through a large network of like-minded global citizens.
